New House – Renovation Project…Part 1

Buying a house surprisingly was not on my bucket list or even in my plans for the future. But when this property came up for sale, I couldn’t resist.

The property is one of the four houses that overlook our land at Motsi’s Meadow. I heard that it was coming up for sale and I told Leanne that I wanted to buy it. She said I was crazy and that we didn’t need to buy a house. Yes true, but how amazing would it be to live in a house overlooking the land we own. Would make keeping an eye on the business down there a lot easier. I convinced her to at least come with me to view the property and then we’d decide.

April 15th 2024, we went to view the property for the first time. In all honesty we weren’t expecting it to be all that much good. I was hopeful and well I think Leanne just thought it was going to be dreadful. We walked in through the front door, into a hallway. Nice space, always good to have a hallway. Then through another door into the living room and we both just said Wow. The living room was huge and was full of light coming through this great big window which had a spectacular view looking out over the treetops with the fields and river below. It just looked stunning. The kitchen was off to the right down two small steps and beyond that was a utility room and a downstairs toilet. The kitchen was quite small but big enough. Upstairs there were 2 bedrooms and a tidy sized bathroom. The back bedroom had built in wardrobes and in the front bedroom was a cupboard that contained the water storage tank. The bathroom was pink 🩷.

On initial viewing we thought that the house had a really great feel to it. Good energy and a nice size. It felt warm and there was no damp. New bathroom and kitchen and then redecorate the rest of the rooms and we’d be good to move in.

We left the viewing and realised we had a decision to make. The house offered a lot more than we were expecting and the added bonus of the location, it just felt like the right thing to do. Even Leanne was excited about the prospect.

The next morning we made them an offer and by the afternoon they had accepted!! OMG we are going to buy a house! How exciting and scary all at the same time. Just the small matter of getting a mortgage to sort out.

Fast forward a couple of months to July 12th and after a lot of stressful nerve-wracking moments, we signed for the house!! It was quite an underwhelming feeling, as we just went into the solicitors, she went over some details, and we signed a few pieces of paper.

Three days later we went on holiday to Scotland for a week. It was a brilliant holiday where we went to watch the Open Golf ⛳.

We arrived home from Scotland on Monday 22nd July and then collected the keys to our new home on Tuesday 23rd July. This was also weird, we basically just walked into the estate agents and they handed over the keys. Not sure what I was expecting but it just felt dull haha. We quickly nipped up to view our new purchase, had about 10 minutes in the house and then it was a mad dash to get me to the train station to catch my train as I was off to Paris to volunteer at the Olympics. Talk about everything happening all at once. Part of me didn’t want to go away, I wanted to start working on the house ASAP. It was such a weird feeling travelling to France and thinking that I had just bought a house. So crazy.

The renovations would need to wait…

Here are some photo’s of our new home taken the day we collected the keys.
