Barefoot for a Year – Day 5,6, 7 & 8

Day 5

New watch day.

Garmin 12232 steps.

Suunto 10789 steps.

Proof my suunto was not recording all my steps, I wonder how long it’s been inaccurate for. Bye bye suunto, will be garmin from now on.

My best day yet. Not only have I done the most steps, I have felt less fatigue and starting to enjoy it.

A few dog walks with my pet sitting jobs, really busy day care, lots of gravel, lots of pavements and lots of work 🙂

Today was a super super wet day. Torrential rain all morning. My first real wet day in barefeet. It was actually a lot of fun. The wet ground is less harsh on the feet. The puddles were warm, the mud was soothing. My feet stayed lovely and clean!

No photo’s as I only did video’s, and I can not upload video to this blog (I don’t think).

Day 6

Total steps 11,117.

Feeling very accomplished today as I have completed a whole working week at daycare. I have survived the gravel in the car park. I have successfully managed to get all the dogs safely in and out of my van, albeit a bit slower than normal. On top of daycare I have completed a pet sitting job for a staffy that required lead walks 2-3 times a day. I was unsure before how a lead walk would go especially if being pulled and it was absolutely no issue.

I visited the local petrol station and put diesel in my van for the first time as barefoot. That was quite a surreal feeling, walking across the forecourt with barefeet. No one batted an eyelid at me. Either people don’t notice or they are so used to me doing crazy things they just don’t think anything of it haha. I do wonder if you all think, oh there is Nicola, what crazy idea is she up to now? haha.

Fresh cut grass and lots of rain

Day 7

Total steps 6838.

It is the weekend. My first weekend barefoot. Unfortunately no parkrun for me today as I had too much work to do. However, I hope to make my parkrun barefoot debut next saturday.

Had a couple of cats to look after in the morning, plus all the day care dogs and then in the afternoon a big black labrador and 2 daschunds needed a walk. I spent a couple of hours with them down the fields at Motsi’s Meadow. Another wet day, more splashing around in puddles.

We had some maintenance work done in the lower woodland area, creating a pathway down to the river. The digger had been in to level it all off. This created a lot of mud. Real proper mud. So naturally, I had to give it a go and get my feet dirty. It was very slippery and gooey and squelchy in between my toes. Very satisfying haha. I can’t believe I am saying or doing this. If you’d asked me a couple of weeks ago to take my shoes and socks off and stand in the mud, I would have thought you were crazy and said No Way that’s disgusting and dirty! Oh how I’ve changed haha.

Proper mud!

Today was also another first, my first time in a supermarket. I went to Tesco for a couple of bits. It was quite late at night and was really quiet there. No one really noticed me, not that I could see. It’s very underwhelming. I want people to talk to me, or about me, or even just look at me funny, but no one seems to even raise an eyebrow LOL.

I have successfully completed my first week barefoot. No real issues. Day 3 I was ready to quit and I genuinely didn’t think I could do it. I was so exhausted and my feet ached real bad. But then after some rest, everything got better. I have been eating really healthy and my energy is a lot better. No longer exhausted and relishing the challenge. I look forward to see what each day brings and love experiencing things for the first time.

1 week down, 51 to go!

Day 8

Total steps 5000.

Sunday and for the first time in ages, no work to do other than look after the boarding dogs and spend a couple of hours at Sunday Social. So I have been as lazy as I possibly could. Didn’t get out of bed until half 11 (unheard of for me) and then went to Sunday Social. This was my first Social with barefoot. For those reading this that don’t know what a Sunday Social is, it is an event at Motsi’s Meadow enclosed dog walking fields, where 20 dogs and owners can all enjoy the fields together. Lots of fun is always had by dogs and humans.

After work was finished I then went to Tesco again. This time it was really busy but I think because I was pushing a trolley it wasn’t very noticeable that I was barefoot. One lady told me that she thought what I was doing was amazing, and let me know that she has donated. That was lovely to hear.

Another first believe it or not today, I cooked a Sunday dinner. This is my first time cooking in barefeet. LMAO. I don’t cook very often, clearly, my wonderful wife usually does the cooking but I thought I would be nice and give her a day off 🙂

Barefoot cooking
After 8 days and my feet are still looking clean

Writing these blogs makes me realise how ordinary my life really is. I basically work ALL the time and do very little else. I just want to go on adventures and discover new things. If only I didn’t have to work every day. I can but dream 🙂

If you are still reading this drivel then thank you.
